Making the right choice of wedding videographer

Over the past few years we have found that more and more couples getting married are requesting the services of a Wedding Videographer.

Not surprisingly, there are just as many camcorder owners who will see this as an opportunity for making easy money for bad workmanship. For some couples many of the results have been far from professional, (Often the finished video being at best laughable, or at worst, unwatchable).

Just about everyone has heard a horror story about a Videographer at some time or another? (They got in the way all the time, Their equipment broke down, He or she was in our face, They turned up late, or never turned up)? Not to mention the fact that He or She annoyed the Church Minister by moving around during the service by climbing over pews to get His or Her shots. They aggravated the Photographer for most of the day by getting in the way and spoiling most of their shots.

However, There are also the professional Videographers who have years of experience within the Wedding Video industry. Who own professional, reliable equipment, and really do have the experience required to produce a high quality film of your special day.

A professional Videographer will provide you with an invaluable and irreplaceable record of your day. Their experience will allow them to do far more than just point and shoot. He or She will always try to catch those little moments that will make all the difference.
They will record your wedding day naturally, capturing every possible moment…(The arrival of your friends and family, that first walk down the aisle, that look as you say “I do” that fleeting kiss just after your vows). They will build a complete story of your wedding day from start to finish, while being as unobtrusive as possible.

With many years of experience in Wedding Video production, and at present supplying our services to over 50 clients per year. We know what our clients want from a professional Videographer.

There is an art to the way a wedding video should be filmed and produced.

We spend at least 5-6 hours during pre-production, (Meeting Clients, Attending Rehearsals, and Planning our recording format for the big day.) We then spend another 7-8 hours during the day of production. Then another 10-12 hours in our studio afterwards putting the production together.

Digital Format is probably the most common format used these days by the Videographer because of its High Quality.

However, there are a few variations within the Digital format that you should take into account. Digital hand held cameras these days can be purchased in most camera shops for a relatively low price of just a few hundred pounds, and though these cameras can produce very good results, they will not compare to the quality of a Digital 3Chip professional camera costing between a few thousands pounds, to forty or fifty thousand pounds. (That’s right fifty).

Video Production however does not just stop at the camera. There is a whole process to go through before your wedding video can be handed over to you in DVD format for you to play in your home machine. It is here that professional formats score heavily over those less expensive alternatives.

It is worth remembering not to be too concerned with who has what equipment, they may have the best in the business but can they produce exactly what you are looking for? Judge for yourself the quality of work that you are shown. Be confident that the Videographer you choose will present and conduct themselves to you, your guests, and your Photographer, in a professional friendly manner on your day.

Of course, finding the right professional Videographer can be a very daunting experience. But there are a few ways in which to find the right person for your special day. Make sure that you have left enough time between now and your wedding day. Many a good Videographer, especially the sought after ones are booked well in advance. Ask recently wed Friends or Colleagues. Get an idea of what they thought of their Videographer. Find out how he or she conducted himself/herself on the day. See how the finished film turned out?

Another way is to ask your Photographer if they could recommend anyone?

Lots of professional Photographers would have certainly worked with a good videographer a few times in the past and would be happy to work with them again.

Contact a few professional Video Associations. They would be more than pleased to give you information about any of their qualified members in your area. Look in local Magazines, Yellow Pages, Websites. Ring and get an idea of how confident they sound over the phone. Go and visit their workplace and ask lots of questions. Ask to see some of their recent work. If they have any certificated qualifications, they would be more than glad to show them to you. Ask them if they can provide you with a few names of recent clients that you may contact for recommendation if required.

It is also a good idea to visit at least two or three different videographer’s, as prices & services may vary from one to another.

If you feel confident that the person you are about to book will give you exactly what you require for your wedding day, and at a price that appeals to you, then make the booking. Choose your Videographer carefully and you will not be disappointed .
