If you long for a romantic honeymoon in an exotic place with palm trees and sandy beaches, but you can not afford the price tag of Barbados or the Caribbean, Tenerife might just be an affordable alternative for you.

Famous for its volcanic landscape and romantic history of a land which rose from the sea, there is something special about Tenerife which attracts thousands of tourists every year to the island.

Do not be put off by the thought of the crowds though, Tenerife not only has a climate for every season, it also has a town for every type of holiday you could ever want. From the hustle and bustle of Playa De Las Americas in the south of the island, to the quiet and unspoilt village of Garachico on the north - west of the island. There are plenty of small towns and villages on the island of Tenerife which will leave you feeling like time has forgotten you in your own little world.

Indeed, there is no need to stay in one place. Why not spend a couple of nights in several different locations around the island? The entire island only takes about an hour to cross, so travelling from one location to another is never really a problem so long as you stick to the main T1 motorway which runs around the Tenerife.

There are a range of activities newly weds can partake in together once on Tenerife, from jet skiing to camel trekking. There are also a range of tours which can be quite awe inspiring and create wonderful lasting memories of a honeymoon spent together watching dolphins swim freely in the sea or gazing in amazement at the hot lava bubbling away at the peak of the volcano you made your home for that time.

Getting to Tenerife is reasonably cheap as far as holidays to all year round hot countries go, they generally begin from around £50 per passenger each way, dependent on the time of year. The most popular way to get to Tenerife, no matter where you are staying is to fly to the south of the island. Here you will land at Reina Sofia airport where car hire or buses are available to take you to your final destination. Cheap flights are easy to find with a quick search on the internet and if you are worried that a budget airline is not right for a honeymoon, you can still book into the VIP lounge at the departure airport to make it a little more special or upgrade your flights to speedy boarding to avoid the masses! Really the most important thing is that you are together and you will save no end of money going to Tenerife rather than a traditional honeymoon destination, so you will have much more money to spend when you get there on luxuries!

When booking honeymoon accommodation in Tenerife, it can be a good idea to book a private villa with a small personal pool. Take advantage of the fact you have no children with you, mention to the villa owner that you are newly weds, see what they can offer you. It has been known that some villa owners will lay fresh rose petals on the bed in the shape of a heart for when you arrive or leave a bottle of champagne for your arrival as a little gesture. There are some lovely villas to be found, sometimes for not much more than an apartment with a communal pool and with no body watching you 24/7, it can be very romantic to sip champagne in the pool together after dark! (something which would never be allowed in a communal pool!)

Another thing to look out for is a hot tub, these can be a lovely addition to a villa used for a honeymoon. There is something soothing about relaxing together in the evening after a hard days sun bathing on your private terrace with a few cocktails! Plus with a hot tub, there is no chance of you getting cold!

It is highly recommended to do the Mount Teide coach trip whilst on honeymoon, particularly if you usually travel with children as they would not appreciate this and it can be nice to hear every word spoken on the tour! You will see some amazing sights at the peak of the volcano, including lava which looks like it only flowed down to the sea yesterday and has set into solid rock as if time forgot it. You can watch amazing experiments being done with the heat from the volcano and it is sure to provide you with plenty to talk about over dinner in the evening.

Dining out on honeymoon in Tenerife is always a pleasure, waiters can not do enough to help you and the atmosphere is lovely by the sea. Think Shirley Valentine sitting by the coast sipping her wine and that is evening dining in Tenerife (except, of course you will be with your new husband as opposed to a waiter!)

The beaches on Tenerife are naturally black sand due to the volcanic landscape, but there are several man made white beaches, particularly in Playa De Las Americas. The sea is as beautiful as any sea in the Caribbean and you can find small private hidden coves if you go in search of them, which is much more romantic than a busy public beach on the south coast obviously.

There are markets held every week in several different locations on the island, including Los Cristianos which is usually on a Sunday. These can be entertaining and some lovely jewellery made of rocks found on the island can be purchased here (a little something for your new husband to buy you as a reminder of your honeymoon?) Along side this, there are plenty of water sports suitable for you both to do together if you are both the adventurous type. These include jet skiing, wind surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and boating.

Tenerife is a wonderful island ideal for every type of holiday maker, it is much more classy than the resorts of mainland Spain such as Benidorm and Alicante, and the weather is almost guaranteed all year round to be of a reasonable temperature and usually always sunny. It all makes for an ideal honeymoon destination, and there is no chance of either of you getting bored!

For cheap flights to Tenerife, we recommend you visit www.cheap-flights-to-tenerife.co.uk where you can search for flights using a comparison engine to both the north and the south of Tenerife for less. Keep an eye out for the voucher codes for Tenerife flights which appear on the site and are updated frequently!
