How to prepare yourself for the wedding photographer.

First of all think in advance. What is it you really don't want on your wedding photographs. Are your rooms full of a collection of things lying around in an untidy mess or you can’t even remember when was the last time you cleaned your mirrors. Tidy up! You can do it a few weeks before the wedding date. Too much furniture may make the room appear smaller. But please don’t get rid of your antique armchair we might use to seat you comfortably during your portrait session. If your big day is tomorrow and you still didn’t manage to do it, stay calm. If the only clutter free background in your room is a window. That’s fine- shooting into a window can be very beneficial for us looking from the lighting point of view. Help is also at hand! Usually it is us photographers who tidy away all bags, boxes, clothes and even make the bed if needed.

Very useful is to have some additional light in the rooms where the bride and the groom are preparing themselves. Allocate some night table lamps or switch on a fireplace. The atmosphere is not only important to us but it also makes you feel more relaxed.

Deal with your pets. We don’t hold anything against them but we do not appreciate either to be jumped on whilst working. This can be dangerous for you and for us. Even well behaved animals get stressed. Make sure your dog has a long walk so it is more likely to fall asleep, or ask someone else to keep eye on your pet and control it when needed. Get rid of your animals fur in the room you are going to get dressed in and this is also good advice for the groom. Whilst we can notice stains on the brides white dress we can also spot all the fur stuck to your suit. You will not be able to see it on our pictures but it will make you feel more comfortable around your guests.

Spray tanning- try it out well before! It is not always a good idea to try things shortly before your wedding. You wouldn't do it with your face cream and the same goes with the tanning spray. There is plenty of reasons why not to do it, mostly because it might happen that you are allergic to some of the ingredients. Do your spray tan a couple of days before your wedding day. If it comes out uneven or not suitable for your skin tone you still have plenty of time to deal with it. You won’t see it on our pictures but what about the ones taken by your friends and relatives?

Invite your sisters or female friends to join you in the preparations. They are fun to be with and will make you feel more relaxed. It might be also very demanding and stressful for the bride when some of the family members come to her place before the ceremony to look at her getting ready. If you are not comfortable with being in public while getting dressed ask them to gather in your living room where they can relax and await the moment you are fully dressed and ready. It is always a bit of a surprise and joy to see you enter the room in the white dress.

And a few tips about weddings in general.

Talk to your photographer, wedding planner, hair dresser or make up artist. It might be your first wedding but not theirs. Ask them about tips and advice. They will have plenty to tell you although they might keep some funny stories for your day to make you smile.
Don’t worry about everything and everyone. Your family will get there on time; who misses free drinks.

If you hire a car and it doesn’t arrive, take a cab or if it’s a short distance take a walk. We had an amazing photo shoot with a bride going on feet to her wedding ceremony in London. Sometimes the small misfortune makes your wedding unique and special. You are a celebrity of the day and don’t make small things spoil the fact that it is supposed to be the most beautiful day of your life, so be it!
