Most Unusual & Interesting Wedding Locations Ever Photographed
Some star-crossed lovers have quite literally gone to the ends of the earth to find each other, so it’s only fitting that they get married in a unique destination at the furthest corner of the world. Wedding photographers never know exactly what they’ll walk into, but some of these amazing settings require even the most seasoned professionals to pull out all the stops.
Naturally, creative locations set the passionate photographer’s heart aflame, but it can certainly be a challenge to snap the perfect shot if, say, the couple were underwater… or even floating in mid-air. Check out these eye-catching and unusual wedding destinations to see just what we mean.
The Underwater Wedding
Most couples dread a little bit of rain on their wedding day or a bad hair day, but not this brave couple that took the plunge at an ocean park in China’s Southern province of Xi’an. Thailand is another famous wedding location known for its underwater vow exchanges.
The couple even rented their own mermaid to swim around and make sure all the guests were smiling for the camera… as best they could while inhaling oxygen, of course.
The challenge of shooting a good photo underwater is that high ISO levels capture more light, but may also result in more distortion. An added plus is that flowers look extra large underwater!
The Neon Boneyard
It’s hard not to fall for the iconic neon signs of Las Vegas that date back to the 1930s.
These once-loved relics have since fallen into a state of disrepair that’s hard not to be enchanted by and many a couple has booked their own private time here to enjoy a wedding ceremony or even just a post-wedding photo shoot.
It’s all about angles when taking the right photos at a place full of large and oddly shaped objects. We also pay special attention to striking colors and saturation settings.

National Showcaves Centre
The National Showcaves Centre in South Wales, UK is anything but dark, damp and dreary. With the right illumination, a cave can become a magical place to say “I do.”
One of the coolest things about this venue is not only the idea of having photos taken in a real honest-to-goodness cave, but also the large dinosaur park full of brilliantly painted Jurassic Era monsters!
We admit, the bone cave was a little creepy with its human skeletons and all, but for the lighthearted couple, this unique venue provides memorable photographs for a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Bringing the right back-up lighting is key to making a cave photo shoot turn out bright.

The Ice Chapel
Michael and Sigret Cook had this stellar ice chapel built especially for them in Fairbanks, Alaska.
This Florida couple was so thrilled to be marrying, they didn’t even mind that it was below zero outside.
For her big day, Sigret wanted to have her ceremony where no one had exchanged vows before - and it looks like she got her wish!
It can be tricky dealing with extreme cold temperatures like this. The photographer needs extremely warm gloves with open finger tips for intricate maneuverings, not to mention special camera equipment that won’t freeze up when zooming in or out.
Kennedy Space Center
For $20,000, Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan were married aboard a modified Boeing 727 jet that could take tremendous nose dives to simulate the zero-gravity conditions experienced by astronauts.
They took off on their tumultuous 90-minute flight from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Their rings were just as bizarre - carved from a meteorite that crash-landed almost 30,000 years ago. What more could a timeless classic couple want?
If it sounds dangerous to take photos outside the realm of gravity… rest assured, it is! The photographer needs special harnesses to stay as still as possible, even though everything else is moving in strange ways.
And patience is the key to nailing the right action shot!
