The Wedding Dress - How to Choose a wedding dress Shop
By Melissa Ingram

One of the most exciting parts of wedding planning is picking out your wedding gown. But before you get started, you need to first find a wedding dress shop. You will have a wide variety of shops to choose from, including national chains, local boutiques and online retailers.

Before you begin choosing a wedding dress shop, you must have a general idea of what type of wedding gown interests you. Are you looking for something formal or more casual? What price range can you afford?

Look through bridal magazines and browse wedding websites to get an idea of different styles of gowns available.

To find a wedding dress shop in your area, ask other women you know for referrals. You are looking for a bridal shop that is clean and reputable, where they have a wide array of affordable gowns. Narrow your bridal shop selections down to three or four choices.

Set a whole day aside to shop. You don't want to feel rushed through the process of finding a wedding dress shop and ultimately finding a wedding gown. Bring your mother, sister, maid of honor or bridesmaid(s) with you. They can offer an honest opinion about the store and the dresses.

When arriving at the wedding dress shop, you first should check to see if the wedding dresses are within your price range. There is no reason to let yourself fall in love with a dress that's ten times more than you are willing to pay. If you find that the prices are astronomical, move on quickly to the next store.

Next you should check their inventory to see if they have a wide enough selection in the gown styles you prefer. Look around the shop to make sure it's clean, organized and has plenty of space for you to trying on and move about in your wedding gown.

Speak with a salesperson and ask a few questions before picking out your dress. Are there any guarantees? Are alterations included in the price? Are accessories available at the shop?

Once you are satisfied with the shop, the fun begins. Work with the salesperson to find a wedding gown that is suitable for the time and season of your wedding, flatters your body shape and reflects your personal style. Try on several wedding gowns before making a decision. If you feel the sales staff is pushy or rude, move on to another bridal shop.

Before making your final purchase, you may consider checking online prices for the gown of your choice. Oftentimes you can find the same gown online at a reduced rate.

Secondhand Bridal Dresses
By Max Bellamy

For couples on a tight budget, using secondhand wedding gowns may be an option.  To relieve some of the stress involved in buying a secondhand wedding gown, there are a few things that a bride-to-be should consider to make the search and purchase of the perfect secondhand wedding gown a fun experience.

Things to consider

One of the first things that you need to consider is your budget.  Before looking for a gown, be aware of what you are willing to spend. This way, you can avoid the stress and disappointment of not being able to buy that gown that you want just because it costs a few hundred dollars more than what you are willing to pay.  Once you know your limit, you can then narrow down your choices. Apart from making it easier for you, you will also have more time to scrutinize the gowns.  You should also allot a considerable amount of time in shopping for the gown because it most likely that you will have alterations made on it.

Research

It would also be a good idea to look at magazines for current trends. When you start shopping for a gown, you can then limit your choices to gowns that are up to date in terms of fashion trends.  Doing so will also inspire ideas of how you would like your gown to look.  It would also be wise to look at several stores so that you will not be too limited in your choices. Besides, looking at more stores will increase your chances of buying a gown you are happy with.

Buying a secondhand gown need not be harrowing. There are ways of eliminating unnecessary stresses when you buy these types of gowns.  A way of doing this is to shop for the gown with proper planning and the right expectations.
